WEB and Socials

WEB and Socials connect with audiences in a way that no other journalistic platform can. They can be accessed 24/7 and are the best ways to get breaking news out to your community.  That's why I'm always looking for new opportunities to work with socials and website work in an ever expanding age of digital journalism.

Social Media Experience

When I was the Editor-in-chief of FHNtoday.com, I had the responsibility of overseeing the Best of SNO badges. One of those badges requires two of our publication's social media accounts to consistently be posting for a month straight. To achieve this I made a content calendar with our social team that they have been using ever since to schedule our content. In the month that they were required to post daily, one of our accounts, FHNgameday, reached 1,000 followers. Building that system not only helped provide thought-out content for our website, but we now have a consistent social system for the first time in years.

WEB Posting

On the back end of the website, I scheduled out all of the stories using a content calendar that I and another editor created. Every day at 7 AM, I submitted one story that we had posted for a chance of winning a "Best of SNO". We ended my senior year with a program high 15 best of SNO awards.

Design Changes I've Made during my time on staff

My high school's website desperately needed a makeover to make it feel fresh and lively again. I made it my goal to breathe new life into the site and I started by updating the home page. The new home screen is on the top and our old one is on the bottom. I also completely changed the yearbook sub page so people could buy a yearbook or content for the yearbook directly on our website. The biggest project I took on was creating the FHNgameday page. It was a subsite of the original site but it exclusively posted sports content,  had links to all our programs sports socials and game scores all in one place.

Multimedia Projects

A big part of my job as WEB Editor-in-chief was putting together our multimedia packages. I oversaw everything that got posted on the WEB so when photo galleries, videos and stories are made about the same topic, I combined them together into one big story element. During my senior year on News staff, we had a big multimedia deadline where everyone was required to pitch in and get content for a solo or group multimedia project. After I got all of the content turned in to me, I put together the packages and posted them weekly on FHNtoday. The packages are some of our most acclaimed pieces coming out of the program as we've had multiple of them win awards for their uniqueness or outstanding coverage. Things that qualified for our multimedia program ranged from the new Buc-ees  opening in Missouri to the wildfires in Maui  or even a cool car show one of my staffers heard about.
